other BK tips from the USurf crew:
1. Swell Dough: Fresh Cafe Fix + Cold Brew

If your idea of the perfect morning starts with the smell of fresh sourdough, juice, and cold brew, Swell Dough is your spot. This hip new spot dishes up salads, smoothies, sandwiches, and top-tier cold brew that’ll wake you up faster than your first turtle roll or duck dive of the day. Light breakfast? Yes. Veg options? Got 'em. Excuse to carb-load? Absolutely. Don't sleep on their case of baked goodies as well. The MVPs for us are the lemon cookies, carrot cake, and burnt basque cheesecakes.

2. Warung Nasi Ceu Kokom: Sundanese Specialties Done Right

This is where you go when you want real-deal Sundanese flavors. Warung Ceu Kokom serves up generous portions of nasi rames (rice with side dishes) and enough sambal to make you sweat (in the best way possible). If you’re looking for an authentic local meal, this is it. She's not open every day, but when she is, you're in for a treat. Most often there's a range of vegetable dishes, tofu or tempeh options, grilled fish, and fried chicken.

3. House of Sawah: Cafe Oasis on the Paddy

Ever had a brekkie so pretty you hesitated to take the first bite? Welcome to House of Sawah, where the food is as Instagrammable as the view. Overlooking lush rice paddies, this restaurant and cafe serves up vibrant, nourishing meals. The juices are refreshing, the rice-field backdrop is unreal, and the whole vibe just screams chill. To mix things up and score a deal, head there on Tuesday for Taco Tuesdays, where happy hour and special Mexi fusion dishes are on the menu. The rendang beef nachos, chicken and cheese quesadillas, and veggie tacos are our faves. And don't forget to reach for the half-priced margarita! There's also a regular happy hour on Fridays, plus Sundays are Burger Night, where burger prices are slashed and combo meals are offered. Sawah's chili smash burger is our personal fave!

4. Beach Corner: Local Food by the Shore

Nothing says “beach life” like eating seafood and warung fare with your toes practically in the sand. At Beach Corner, also known as Mang Ate's Warung, you can feast on grilled fish, prawns, and other ocean-fresh delights while watching the waves roll in at the main point, Legokpari. It’s simple, unfussy, and exactly what you want after a long day in the water. For an easy brekkie try their banana pancakes or jaffle (toastie with egg, cheese, and tomato). As for lunch and dinner, one of our favorite things to order is the nasi kampung: "lightly" fried rice topped with a sunny side up egg and a piece of fried chicken with a side of sambal. And for snacks, you simply must try the prawn bala-bala: shrimp and veggie fritters! FYI for the location since they don't have a Google Maps listing, go past Hang Five Coffee Shop and find it as the last warung in the row of shops, closest to the beach.

5. Warung Ma Engkar: Lengko Soup & Comforting Home-Cooked Meals on the River

Batukaras may be known for its surf, but Warung Ma Engkar is known for its lengko, a traditional Sundanese coconut chicken soup that tastes like a warm hug in a bowl. The kind of meal that soothes sore paddling arms and refuels you for another round in the waves. Come for the soup, stay for the lovely view of the river. Other menu items include karedok (mixed veggies with peanut sauce), and kupat tahu (rice cake and tofu in peanut sauce).

6. Kedai Mini: Western & Indonesian Favorites with a Scenic View

If Nook in Bali had a smaller, laid-back, surf-town cousin, it would be Kedai Mini. This charming spot offers the best of both worlds: Indonesian comfort food (hello, mie goreng) and Western classics (yes, there’s steak here, but also plenty of options for non-meat eaters, too). Add in its prime location overlooking a dreamy rice paddy, and you’ve got the ultimate spot to kick back after a surf session. Some of our favorite things to order from Kedai Mini are the feta cheese salad, steak pasta (creamy fettuccine topped with steak!), and passionfruit cheesecake. NOM!
